Blogging Tip – According to HubSpot State of Inbound Marketing, 2012, 92% of companies who blogged multiple times a day acquired a customer through their blog. We set this online marketing statistic to a interesting Morpheus meme, but don’t lose focus of the message, that blog frequency impacts customer acquisition.

Here are one quick benefit of blogging and why business of all sizes need to seriously consider launching a blog.  Once you latch on to this idea you’ll realize why companies that blog have an easier time acquiring customers via their websites than those that don’t.  What’s the benefit?

Blogs drive traffic to your website

I doubt that you invested in a website to get as little targeted traffic as possible.  To understand how blogging can help drive additional traffic think about the various people might find your site.

  • People could type your business name directly into a search engine. But here’s the thing, it’s an audience you already have. They know who you are, you’ve already managed to get on radar screen, and that doesn’t help you get more traffic.
  • You could consider purchasing a list of email addresses, sending out thousands of email blast with the hope that someone will click on a link in the message and visit your site.  But alas this is expensive, and not to mention quite illegal.
  • There’s always the PPC option, where you pay for traffic by placing paid search ads, which isn’t illegal, but still quite expensive.  We provide PPC Agency services and so we like online advertising here but the fact remains that the second you run out of money, your traffic stops coming, too.

How To Drive Traffic To Your Website

You can drive highly targeted traffic to your company website by blogging, social media, and search engines. Here’s how to get it done.

The first thing is to understand that search engines like sites with lots of relevant content, what I call in-depth sites, and sites that are frequently updated.  So there are two hurdles to overcome when attempting to become a traffic magnet.

  1. You need lots of relevant and original content
  2. You need to keep your website fresh by updating your content

Now, think about how many pages there are on your website. Most, blogless, sites have fewer than ten.  Now consider how often you actually update those webpages. Probably not that often, right? (How often can you really update your Contact page, or your About page?)

Blogging provides original, fresh content

Each and every blog post becomes one more page that search engines can index on your site.  Posting regularly keeps your site active and signals search engines like Google, and Bing that they should crawl your site frequently to see what content you’ve published.

When your new blog post gets indexed by search engines it becomes an additional opportunity for your company website to show up on a search engine result page (SERP), which of course is another opportunity to drive traffic to your website through organic, non-paid, search.  We’ll get into more of the benefits of blogging on your SEO in future post.

Social media marketing benefits of blogging

Having trouble figuring out how to get discovered on Twitter, or Google Plus.  Well blogging also helps you get discovered via social media. Every article posted to your site becomes content that others can share on social networks, exposing your company to an audience that has yet to discover you.

Regular, and frequent blogging also has the benefit of keeping your social media presence going — instead of asking your social media manager to come up with brand new original content for social media (or creating that content yourself), your blog can serve as source content.

So, blogging can help your company get over the SEO hurdles needing lots of content, keeping your website fresh and updated, and has the added benefit of improving your social media marketing efforts.

We suggest you don’t just take our word or our Morpheus meme’s word for it, but give it a shot for yourself.
